Ahmad Syafii Maarif is one of distinguished religious and educational figure in Indonesia. Started off his carrier as a teacher and lecturer in many universities across Indonesia, and ultimately he became The Chief Executive of PP Muhammadiyah. After retiring, he is now one of the BPIB member. BPIP is Badan Pembinaan Ideology Pancasila (Pancasila Ideology Development Institution), which work directly under President of Indonesia.
Syafii, his nickname, also often seen wearing numerous batik shirts, such as in the picture the Wahyu Temurun pattern. Wahyu Temurun is originally coming from Surakarta Kingdom, and one of the oldest pattern of old Javanese. Wahyu Temurun means a pattern of nobility and greatness whereas the wearer is believed will be given those aspects by God. In addition, the wearer is seen to have prestige when wearing this pattern. The main function of this pattern can be found in wedding Javanese reception, in the stage of Panggih or toting the bride into the aisle.
